Cristabel Balenciaga

The silhouette is only important if it makes a dress elegant for a woman, nothing else counts.” – Cristobal Balenciaga.

Balenciaga was known as the master of shape, his work throughout the 1950s worked on creating a new shape and figure for women through cuts and shaping of clothing. He played with the silhouette to create completely new looks that nobody had seen.
Either removing the waist totally and broadening the shoulders to create the cocoon shape or creating high waisted skirts that showed off the womens waist and showed off her hourglass figure. It was a time of experimentation new fabrics were being developed and used by many designers in order to portray the true beauty of women and fashion.
